38. European Anti-bullying Campaign

Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. It can be emotional, verbal or physical. It can also be performed through the Internet. Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people. It has become more common in society, particularly among young people. Europe has now its own website to stand up to bullying, which is run, for the time being, in Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Bullying hurts! Don't be a part of it!!!

37. Easter tradition in Europe

Easter is a Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many traditional games and customs have developed. One of them is egg tapping (or egg knocking or egg fight).

Another custom is egg decorating

In Germany they hang eggs with strings from tree branches!

As well as decorating eggs it is customary in sections of Northwestern Europe ( Denmark, parts of Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands) on Good Saturday and Easter Sunday to light large fires (bonfires) at dusk.

In Greece, Good Friday is the most sacred day of the Holy Week, the day of the culmination of the passion of Christ. Women and children go to church to decorate the Epitaph (Bier of Christ) with flowers and in the evening the Epitaph procession takes place.

On the same day, it is customary in some places in Greece and Cyprus for a small doll representing Judas Iscariot to be burnt.

36. I used to think.../Now, I think...

As the project came to an end we reflected on how our thinking has changed. Our thinking about Europe and the European Union as well as our thinking about working in the English classroom. Each text has a unique value and helps us move a step forward as individuals and as a group!

35. Our Learning Journals

Throughout the project we kept diaries (or even better learning journals). We wrote about our meetings, reflected on what we had learnt and done. Here are some beautiful extracts!

34. Chromophobia

Is being different something bad? Is war better than peace? What is beauty? What values are important in life? Is there hope? Watch and think.

31. Carnivals in Europe

Carnival is time for fancy costumes, celebration and fun. One of the most famous carnivals in Europe is the carnival of Venice (Italy) which began in the 14th-15th century

The Venetian carnival tradition is mostly famous for its elaborate costumes and masks

Carnival of Nice (France).  It is famous for its magnificent parades.  Platforms decorated in flowers, fairy tale characters and girls in spectacular costumes sweep through the city.

Binche carnival (Belgium). 600 identically dressed men march through the city. Each one of them wears a white hat and a wax mask with green glasses and a moustache. They carry wooden baskets full of oranges, which they throw into the crowd. As a result, the viewers are covered in orange juice from head to toe, which brings them luck.

The Patras Carnival (Greece). It has more than 160 years of history and it's one of the biggest carnival events in Europe. The carnival of Patras is not a single event but a variety of events (balls, parades, hidden treasure hunt, kids’ carnival). The Carnival ends with the Saturday evening parade of carnival groups, the extravagant Sunday parade of floats and groups, and finally the ritual burning of king carnival in the harbour of Patras. Its characteristics are spontaneity, improvisation, inspiration and volunteerism.

The Euro-explorers have completed our European Panorama. Our class filled with  Europe!

Today, we had a carnival feast in our school. The Euro-explorers came dressed up in their fancy costumes but did not forget our project! We had a great time!
